Gospel of the day February 28, 2021

Gospel of the day February 28, 2021: The Transfiguration of Christ shows us the Christian perspective of suffering. Suffering is not sadomasochism: it is a necessary but transitory passage. The point of arrival to which we are called is as luminous as the face of the transfigured Christ: in him is salvation, beatitude, light, the love of God without limits. Showing his glory in this way, Jesus assures us that the cross, the trials, the difficulties in which we struggle have their solution and their overcoming at Easter.

Therefore, in this Lent, we too go up the mountain with Jesus! But in what way? With prayer. We go up to the mountain with prayer: silent prayer, prayer of the heart, prayer always seeking the Lord. We remain for a few moments in meditation, a little bit every day, we fix the inner gaze on his face and let his light pervade us and radiate into our life. (Pope Francis, Angelus March 17, 2019)

Today's Gospel

First Reading From the book of Genesis Gen 22,1-2.9.10-13.15-18 In those days, God put Abraham to the test and said to him: "Abraham!" He replied: "Here I am!" He continued: «Take your son, your only begotten son whom you love, Isaac, go to the territory of Mòria and offer him as a holocaust on a mountain that I will show you». Thus they arrived at the place that God had indicated to them; here Abraham built the altar, placed the wood. Then Abraham reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the angel of the Lord called him from heaven and said to him, "Abraham, Abraham!" He replied: "Here I am!" The angel said, "Don't stretch out your hand against the boy and don't do anything to him!" Now I know that you fear God and you have not refused me your son, your only begotten ».

Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram, entangled with its horns in a bush. Abraham went to get the ram and offered it as a burnt offering instead of his son. The angel of the Lord called Abraham from heaven for the second time and said: "I swear by myself, oracle of the Lord: because you did this and did not spare your son, your only begotten, I will shower you with blessings and give much your descendants are numerous, like the stars in the sky and like the sand that is on the shore of the sea; your offspring will seize the cities of enemies. All the nations of the earth will be blessed in your descendants, because you have obeyed my voice.

Second reading From the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans Rm 8,31b-34 Brothers, if God is for us, who will be against us? Will he, who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, will he not give us everything together with him? Who will bring charges against those God has chosen? God is the one who justifies! Who will condemn? Christ Jesus is dead, indeed he is risen, he stands at the right hand of God and intercedes for us!

From the Gospel according to Mark Mk 9,2: 10-XNUMX At that time, Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them to a high mountain by themselves alone. He was transfigured before them and his garments became shining, very white: no washerman on earth could make them so white. And Elijah appeared to them with Moses and they conversed with Jesus. Speaking, Peter said to Jesus: «Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; we make three booths, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah ». In fact, he did not know what to say, because they were frightened. A cloud came and covered them with its shadow and a voice came out of the cloud: "This is my beloved Son: listen to him!" And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone, except Jesus alone, with them. As they came down from the mountain, he commanded them not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. And they held it among themselves, wondering what it meant to rise from the dead.
