Gospel of February 3, 2021 with the comment of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the letter to the Jews
Heb 12,4 - 7,11-15

Brothers, you have not yet resisted to the point of blood in the fight against sin and you have already forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as to children:
«My son, do not despise the correction of the Lord
and don't lose heart when you are taken up by him;
for the Lord disciplines him whom he loves
and he strikes anyone he recognizes as a son. "

It is for your correction that you suffer! God treats you as children; and what is the son who is not corrected by the father? Of course, at the moment, every correction does not seem a cause of joy, but of sadness; afterwards, however, it brings a fruit of peace and justice to those who have been trained through it.

Therefore, strengthen your inert hands and weak knees and walk straight with your feet, so that the foot that limps does not have to be crippled, but rather to heal.

Seek peace with everyone and sanctification, without which no one will ever see the Lord; be vigilant so that no one deprives himself of the grace of God. Do not grow or grow among you any poisonous root, which causes damage and many are infected.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Mark
Mc 6,1-6

At that time, Jesus came to his homeland and his disciples followed him.

When Saturday came, he began to teach in the synagogue. And many, listening, were amazed and said: «Where do these things come from? And what wisdom is that which has been given to him? And the wonders like those performed by his hands? Isn't this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, Joses, Judas and Simon? And your sisters, aren't they here with us? ». And it was a cause of scandal for them.

But Jesus said to them: "A prophet is not despised except in his country, among his relatives and in his house." And there he could not perform any miracles, but only laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled at their disbelief.

Jesus walked around the villages, teaching.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
According to the inhabitants of Nazareth, God is too great to stoop to speak through such a simple man! (…) God does not conform to prejudices. We must strive to open our hearts and minds, to welcome the divine reality that comes to meet us. It is a question of having faith: the lack of faith is an obstacle to the grace of God. Many baptized live as if Christ did not exist: the gestures and signs of faith are repeated, but they do not correspond to a real adherence to the person of Jesus and to the his Gospel.
