Gospel of the day: January 6, 2020

Book of Isaiah 60,1-6.
Get up, put on light, because your light is coming, the glory of the Lord shines above you.
Since, behold, darkness covers the earth, thick fog envelops the nations; but the Lord shines upon you, his glory appears upon you.
The peoples will walk in your light, the kings in the splendor of your rising.
Lift your eyes around and look: all of them have gathered, they come to you. Your sons come from afar, your daughters are carried in your arms.
At that sight you will be radiant, your heart will flutter and expand, because the riches of the sea will pour out on you, the goods of the peoples will come to you.
A crowd of camels will invade you, dromedaries of Midian and Efa, all will come from Saba, bringing gold and incense and proclaiming the glories of the Lord.

Salmi 72(71),2.7-8.10-11.12-13.
God give your judgment to the king,
your righteousness to the king's son;
Regain your people with justice
and your poor with righteousness.

In his days justice will flourish and peace will abound,
until the moon goes out.
And will dominate from sea to sea,
from the river to the ends of the earth.

The kings of Tarsis and the islands will bring offerings,
the kings of the Arabs and Sabas will offer tributes.
All kings will bow down to him,
all nations will serve it.

He will free the screaming poor man
and the wretch who finds no help,
he will have pity on the weak and the poor
and will save the life of his wretched.

Letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians 3,2-3a.5-6.
Brethren, I think you have heard of the ministry of the grace of God entrusted to me for your benefit:
as by revelation I have been made aware of the mystery.
This mystery has not been manifested to men of previous generations as at present it has been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets through the Spirit:
that is, that the Gentiles are called, in Christ Jesus, to participate in the same inheritance, to form the same body, and to participate in the promise by means of the gospel.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 2,1-12.
Born Jesus in Bethlehem of Judea, at the time of King Herod, some Magi came from east to Jerusalem and asked:
«Where is the king of the Jews who was born? We have seen his star rise, and we have come to worship him. "
Upon hearing these words, King Herod was troubled and with him all Jerusalem.
Gathering all the high priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired from them about the place where the Messiah was to be born.
They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, because it is so written by the prophet:
And you, Bethlehem, the land of Judah, are not really the smallest capital of Judah: in fact a chief will come out of you who will feed my people, Israel.
Then Herod, secretly called the Magi, had the time when the star appeared exactly
and he sent them to Bethlehem exhorting them: "Go and inquire carefully about the child and, when you have found him, let me know, so that I too may come to adore him".
When they heard the king's words, they left. And behold the star, which they had seen in its rising, preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.
On seeing the star, they felt great joy.
Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and prostrated themselves and adored him. Then they opened their caskets and offered him gold, frankincense and myrrh as a gift.
Warned then in a dream not to return to Herod, they returned to their country by another road.
