READING OF THE DAY

From the book of Gènesi
Jan 1,20 - 2,4a

God said, "Let the waters of living beings and birds fly over the earth, before the firmament of heaven." God created the great sea monsters and all living beings that dart and swoop in the waters, according to their kind, and all the winged birds, according to their kind. God saw it was good. God blessed them: “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the seas; the birds multiply on the earth ». And it was evening and morning: the fifth day.

God said, "Let the earth produce living beings according to their kind: cattle, reptiles and wild animals, according to their kind." And so it happened. God made wild animals, according to their kind, cattle, according to their kind, and all the reptiles of the soil, according to their kind. God saw it was good.

God said: "Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness: do you live over fish in the sea and birds in the sky, over livestock, over all wild animals and over all reptiles that crawl on the earth."

And God created man in his own image;
in the image of God he created him:
male and female he created them.

God blessed them and God said to them:
"Be fruitful and multiply,
fill the earth and subdue it,
dominate over the fish of the sea and the birds of the sky
and on every living being that crawls on the earth ».

God said, “Behold, I give you every seed-producing herb that is in all the earth, and every fruit-bearing tree that produces seed: they will be your food. To all the wild animals, to all the birds of the sky and to all the beings that crawl on the earth and in which there is the breath of life, I give every green grass as food ». And so it happened. God saw what He had done, and behold, it was very good. And it was evening and morning: sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth and all their hosts were completed. God, on the seventh day, completed the work he had done and ceased on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. God blessed the seventh day and consecrated it, because in it he had ceased from every work he had done by creating.

These are the origins of heaven and earth when they were created.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Mark
Mc 7,1-13

At that time, the Pharisees and some of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem, gathered around Jesus.
Having seen that some of his disciples ate food with unclean, that is, unwashed hands - in fact, the Pharisees and all Jews do not eat unless they have washed their hands thoroughly, following the tradition of the ancients and, returning from the market, do not eat without having did the ablutions, and observe many other things by tradition, such as washing of glasses, dishes, copper objects and beds -, those Pharisees and scribes questioned him: "Because your disciples do not behave according to the tradition of the ancients, but do they take food with impure hands? ».
And he answered them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, hypocrites, as it is written:
"This people honors me with their lips,
but his heart is far from me.
In vain do they worship me,
teaching doctrines that are precepts of men ”.
By neglecting the commandment of God, you observe the tradition of men ».

And he said to them: «You are truly skilled in rejecting the commandment of God to keep your tradition. Moses in fact said: "Honor your father and your mother", and: "Whoever curses his father or mother must be put to death." But you say: "If someone declares to his father or mother: What I should help you with is korban, that is, an offering to God", you do not allow him to do anything more for his father or mother. Thus you cancel the word of God with the tradition that you have handed down. And of similar things you do many ».

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER

“How He worked in Creation, He gave us the work, He gave the work to carry the Creation forward. Not to destroy it; but to make it grow, to heal it, to keep it and to make it carry on. He gave all of creation to keep it and carry it forward: this is the gift. And finally, 'God created man in His image, male and female he created them.' " (Santa Marta 7 February 2017)
