Gospel of 8 August 2018

Wednesday of the XVIII week of Ordinary Time

Book of Jeremiah 31,1-7.
At that time - oracle of the Lord - I will be God for all the tribes of Israel and they will be my people ”.
Thus says the Lord: “A people who escaped the sword found grace in the desert; Israel is heading for a quiet abode ”.
From afar the Lord appeared to him: “I have loved you with eternal love, for this I still have mercy on you.
I will build you again and you will be rebuilt, virgin of Israel. Again you will adorn yourself with your drums and go out among the dance of the celebrants.
Again you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria; the planters, after planting, will reap.
The day will come when the lookouts in the mountains of Ephraim will cry: Come on, let's go up to Zion, let's go to the Lord our God ”.
For says the Lord: "Raise songs of joy for Jacob, exult for the first of the nations, make your praise heard and say: The Lord has saved his people, a remnant of Israel."

Book of Jeremiah 31,10.11-12ab.13.
Hear the word of the Lord, peoples,
announce it to the distant islands and say:
“Whoever dispersed Israel gathers him
and guards it as a shepherd does with the flock ",

The Lord has redeemed Jacob,
he redeemed him from the hands of the fittest of him.
Hymns will come and sing on the hill of Zion,
they will flow to the goods of the Lord.

Then the virgin of the dance will rejoice;
young and old will rejoice.
I will change their mourning into joy,
I will console them and make them happy, without afflictions.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 15,21-28.
At that time, Jesus withdrew to the area of Tire and Sidòne.
And behold a Cananèa woman, who came from those regions, began to cry out: «Have mercy on me, Lord, son of David. My daughter is cruelly tormented by a demon. "
But he didn't say a word to her. Then the disciples came to him imploring: "Hear it, see how it shouts after us."
But he replied, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
But that came and prostrated himself before him saying: "Lord, help me!".
And he replied, "It is not good to take the children's bread to throw it to the dogs."
"It's true, Lord, said the woman, but even the little dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."
Then Jesus replied to her: «Woman, truly great is your faith! It is done to you as you wish ». And from that moment her daughter was healed.
