Gospel of February 8, 2019

Letter to the Hebrews 13,1-8.
Brothers, persevere in brotherly love.
Don't forget the hospitality; some, practicing it, welcomed angels without knowing it.
Remember the prisoners, as if you were their prison companions, and those who suffer, being you too in a mortal body.
Marriage is respected by all and the thalamus is spotless. Fornicators and adulterers will be judged by God.
May your conduct be without avarice; be content with what you have, because God himself said: I will not leave you and I will not abandon you.
So we can confidently say: The Lord is my help, I will not fear. What can man do to me?
Remember your leaders, who have spoken the word of God to you; By carefully considering the outcome of their standard of living, imitate their faith.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and always!

Psalms 27 (26), 1.3.5.8b-9abc.
The Lord is my light and my salvation,
who will I be afraid of?
The Lord is defense of my life,
Who will I be afraid of?

If an army is camped against me,
my heart is not afraid;
if the battle breaks out against me,
even then I have faith.

He offers me a place of refuge
on the day of misfortune.
He hides me in the secret of his home,
lifts me up on the cliff.

Your face, Lord, I seek.
Don't hide your face from me,
do not anger your servant.
You are my help, don't leave me,

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 6,14-29.
At that time, King Herod heard about Jesus, as his name had become famous in the meantime. It was said: "John the Baptist rose from the dead and for this reason the power of miracles works in him".
Others said, "It is Elijah"; others still said: "He is a prophet, like one of the prophets."
But when Herod heard about it, he said: "That John whom I had beheaded has risen!"
Herod had John arrested and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.
John said to Herod: "It is not lawful for you to keep your brother's wife."
This is why Herodias made him grudge and would have liked to have him killed, but he could not,
because Herod feared John, knowing him just and holy, and watched over him; and although he was very perplexed in listening to him, he still listened to him willingly.
However, the right day came, when Herod made a banquet for his birthdays for the greats of his court, the officers and notables of Galilee.
When Herodias' daughter came in, she danced and pleased Herod and the guests. Then the king said to the girl, "Ask me what you want and I will give it to you."
And he took this oath: "Whatever you ask me, I will give it to you, even if it is half of my kingdom."
The girl went out and said to her mother, "What should I ask for?" She replied, "The head of John the Baptist."
And when she ran in to the king, she made the request saying: "I want you to immediately give me the head of John the Baptist on a tray."
The king became sad; however, because of the oath and the diners, he did not want to refuse her.
Immediately the king sent a guard with orders to bring his head.
The guard went, beheaded him in prison and put his head on a tray, gave it to the girl and the girl gave it to her mother.
When John's disciples knew it, they came, took the body and placed it in a sepulcher.
