Gospel of 8st July 2018

XIV Sunday in Ordinary Time

Book of Ezekiel 2,2-5.
In those days, a spirit entered me, made me stand up and I listened to the one who spoke to me.
He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a people of rebels, who have turned against me. They and their fathers have sinned against me to this day.
Those to whom I send you are stubborn and hard-hearted children. You will say to them: The Lord God says.
Whether they listen or they don't listen - because they are a rebel race - they will at least know that a prophet is among them. "

Salmi 123(122),1-2a.2bcd.3-4.
I raise my eyes to you,
to you who live in the skies.
Here, like the eyes of the servants
at the hand of their masters;

like the eyes of the slave,
at the hand of his mistress,
so our eyes
are turned to the Lord our God,
as long as you have mercy on us.

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,
they have already filled us with derision too much,
we are too satisfied with the ridicule of the gamblers,
of the contempt of the proud.

Second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to Corinthians 12,7-10.
In order that I would not mount in pride for the greatness of the revelations, I was put a thorn in the flesh, an envoy of Satan in charge of slapping me, so that I do not go in pride.
Because of this, three times I prayed to the Lord to take her away from me.
And he told me: “My grace is enough for you; in fact my power is fully manifested in weakness ”. I will therefore gladly boast of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Therefore I am pleased in my infirmities, in the outrages, in the needs, in the persecutions, in the anxieties suffered for Christ: when I am weak, it is then that I am strong.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 6,1-6.
At that time, Jesus came to his homeland and the disciples followed him.
When he came on Saturday, he began teaching in the synagogue. And many listening to him were amazed and said, "Where do these things come from?" And what wisdom is this ever given to him? And these wonders performed by his hands?
Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, of Ioses, of Judas and of Simon? And aren't your sisters here with us? ' And they were scandalized by him.
But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is only despised in his homeland, among his relatives and in his house."
And no prodigy could work there, but only laid the hands of a few sick people and healed them.
And he marveled at their unbelief. Jesus went around the villages, teaching.
