Today's Gospel December 1, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the book of the prophet Isaìa
Is 11,1-10

In that day,
a shoot will sprout from the trunk of Jesse,
a shoot will sprout from its roots.
The spirit of the Lord will rest upon him,
spirit of wisdom and intelligence,
spirit of advice and fortitude,
spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.

He will be pleased with the fear of the Lord.
He will not judge on appearances
and will not make decisions by hearsay;
but he will judge the poor with justice
and will make righteous decisions for the humble of the earth.
He will strike the violent with the rod of his mouth,
with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.
Justice will be the band of his loins
and the belt fidelity of his hips.

The wolf will dwell together with the lamb;
the leopard will lie down next to the kid;
the calf and the young lion will graze together
and a little boy will lead them.
The cow and the bear will graze together;
their young will lie down together.
The lion will eat straw, like the ox.
The infant will play on the pit of the viper;
the child will put his hand in the den of the poisonous snake.
They will no longer act iniquitously or plunder
in all my holy mountain,
for the knowledge of the Lord will fill the earth
as the waters cover the sea.
On that day it will happen
that the root of Jesse will be a banner for the peoples.
Nations will look forward to it.
His abode will be glorious.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 10,21-24

In that same hour Jesus exulted for joy in the Holy Spirit and said: «I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned and revealed them to the little ones. Yes, Father, because so you have decided in your benevolence. Everything has been given to me by my Father and no one knows who the Son is if not the Father, nor who the Father is but the Son and the one to whom the Son will want to reveal him ».

And, turning aside to the disciples, he said: «Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you look at, but they did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but they did not listen to it. "

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
"A shoot will sprout from the trunk of Jesse, a shoot will sprout from its roots." In these passages the meaning of Christmas shines through: God fulfills the promise by becoming man; he does not abandon his people, he approaches to the point of stripping himself of his divinity. In this way God demonstrates his fidelity and inaugurates a new Kingdom which gives humanity a new hope: eternal life. (General Audience, December 21, 2016
