Today's Gospel November 1, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
First Reading

From the book of the Apocalypse of Saint John the Apostle
Rev 7,2-4.9-14

I, John, saw another angel rising from the east, with the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, who had been allowed to devastate the earth and the sea: "Do not devastate the earth or the sea or the plants, until we have stamped the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God."

And I heard the number of those who were signed with the seal: a hundred and forty-four thousand signed, from every tribe of the children of Israel.

After these things I saw: behold, an immense multitude, which no one could count, of every nation, tribe, people and language. All stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wrapped in white robes, and held palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, seated on the throne, and to the Lamb."

And all the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living beings, and they bowed with their faces on the ground before the throne and worshiped God saying, “Amen! Praise, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power and strength to our God forever and ever. Amen".

One of the elders then turned to me and said: "These, who are dressed in white, who are they and where do they come from?" I replied, "My Lord, you know it." And he: «They are those who come from the great tribulation and who washed their garments, making them white in the blood of the Lamb».

Second reading

From the first letter of St. John the apostle
1 Jn 3,1: 3-XNUMX

Dear friends, see what great love the Father gave us to be called children of God, and we really are! This is why the world does not know us: because it has not known him.
Dear ones, we are children of God from now on, but what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know, however, that when he has manifested himself, we will be similar to him, because we will see him as he is.
Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, as he is pure.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 5,1-12a

At that time, seeing the crowds, Jesus went up on the mountain and sat down and his disciples came to him. He spoke and taught them, saying:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
because of them is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who are in tears,
because they will be comforted.
Blessed are the myths,
because they will inherit the land.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice,
because they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
because they will find mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
because they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
because they will be called children of God.
Blessed are the persecuted for justice,
because of them is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you, persecute you and, lying, say all sorts of evil against you for my sake. Rejoice and rejoice, because great is your reward in heaven ».

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
Jesus manifests God's will to lead men to happiness. This message was already present in the preaching of the prophets: God is close to the poor and the oppressed and frees them from those who mistreat them. But in his preaching, Jesus follows a particular path. The poor, in this evangelical sense, appear as those who keep awake the goal of the Kingdom of Heaven, making us see that it is anticipated in germ in the fraternal community, which favors sharing rather than possession.
