Today's Gospel December 10, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the book of the prophet Isaìa
Is 41,13-20

I am the Lord your God,
that I hold you to the right
and I tell you: «Do not be afraid, I will come to your aid».
Fear not, Jacob's worm,
larva of Israel;
I come to your aid - Oracle of the Lord -,
your redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

Behold, I make you like a sharp, new thresher,
equipped with many points;
you will thresh the mountains and crush them,
you will reduce the necks to chaff.
You will sift them and the wind will carry them away,
the whirlwind will disperse them.
But you will rejoice in the Lord,
you will boast of the Holy One of Israel.

The miserable and the poor seek water but there is no;
their tongues are parched with thirst.
I, the Lord, will answer them,
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
I will make rivers flow upon barren hills,
fountains in the middle of the valleys;
I will change the desert into a lake of water,
the arid land in the area of springs.
In the desert I will plant cedars,
acacias, myrtles and olive trees;
in the steppe I will place cypresses,
elms and firs;
so that they can see and know,
consider and understand at the same time
that this was done by the hand of the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel created it.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 11,11-15

At that time, Jesus said to the crowds:

«Truly I tell you: among those born of women there is no one greater than John the Baptist; but the smallest in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it over.
In fact, all the Prophets and the Law prophesied up to John. And, if you want to understand, he is that Elia who is to come. Who has ears, listen! "

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The testimony of John the Baptist helps us to move forward in our life witness. The purity of his announcement, his courage in proclaiming the truth managed to awaken the expectations and hopes of the Messiah that had long been dormant. Even today, the disciples of Jesus are called to be his humble but courageous witnesses to rekindle hope, to make people understand that, despite everything, the kingdom of God continues to be built day by day with the power of the Holy Spirit.
