Today's Gospel 10 September 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first letter of St Paul the apostle to the Corinthians
1Cor 8,1: 7.11b-13-XNUMX

Brothers, knowledge fills with pride, while love edifies. If someone thinks he knows something, he has not yet learned how to know. On the other hand, whoever loves God is known by him.

Therefore, as regards eating the meat sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no idol in the world and that there is no god, if not just one. In fact, even though there are so-called gods both in heaven and on earth - and indeed there are many gods and many lords -,
for us there is only one God, the Father,
from whom everything comes and we are for him;
and one Lord, Jesus Christ,
by virtue of which all things exist and we exist thanks to him.

But not everyone has the knowledge; some, until now accustomed to idols, eat meat as if it were sacrificed to idols, and thus their conscience, weak as it is, remains contaminated.
And behold, by your knowledge, the weak is ruined, a brother for whom Christ died! By thus sinning against the brothers and wounding their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. For this reason, if a food scandalizes my brother, I will never eat meat again, so as not to give scandal to my brother.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 6,27-38

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:

«To you who listen, I say: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly. To anyone who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; from whoever tears your cloak, do not refuse even the tunic. Give to anyone who asks you, and to those who take your things, don't ask them back.

And as you want men to do to you, so do you too. If you love those who love you, what gratitude is due to you? Sinners also love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what gratitude is due to you? Even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those you hope to receive, what gratitude is due to you? Sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much. Instead, love your enemies, do good and lend without hoping for anything, and your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

Be merciful, as your Father is merciful.

Do not judge and you will not be judged; do not condemn and you will not be condemned; forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and it will be given to you: a good measure, pressed, filled and overflowing, will be poured into your womb, because with the measure with which you measure, it will be measured to you in return. "

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
It will do us good today to think of an enemy - I think we all have some - one who has hurt us or who wants to hurt us or who tries to hurt us. Ah, this! The Mafia prayer is: “You will pay for it” », the Christian prayer is:« Lord, give him your blessing and teach me to love him ». (Santa Marta, 19 June 2018)
