Today's Gospel October 11, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
First Reading

From the book of the prophet Isaìa
Is 25,6-10a

The Lord of hosts will prepare for all peoples, on this mountain, a banquet of fatty food, a banquet of excellent wines, succulent foods, refined wines. He will tear from this mountain the veil that covered the face of all peoples and the blanket spread over all nations. It will eliminate death forever. The Lord God will wipe away the tears from every face, the shame of his people will make them disappear from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. And it will be said on that day: «Here is our God; in him we hoped to save us. This is the Lord we have hoped for; let us rejoice, let us rejoice in his salvation, since the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain. "

Second reading

From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Philippites
Phil 4,12: 14.19-20-XNUMX

Brothers, I know how to live in poverty as I know how to live in abundance; I am trained for everything and for everything, to satiety and hunger, abundance and poverty. I can do everything in him who gives me strength. However, you did well to share in my tribulations. My God, in turn, will fill your every need according to his richness with magnificence, in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 22,1-14

At that time, Jesus resumed speaking in parables [to the chief priests and the Pharisees] and said: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king, who made a wedding feast for his son. He sent his servants to call the wedding guests, but they did not want to come. Again he sent other servants with this order: Tell the guests: Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fattened animals are already killed and everything is ready; come to the wedding !. But they didn't care and some went to their own camp, some to their business; others then took his servants, insulted them and killed them. Then the king was indignant: he sent his troops, had those murderers killed, and set their city on fire. Then he said to his servants: The wedding feast is ready, but the guests were not worthy; go now to the crossroads and all those you will find, call them to the wedding. When they went out into the streets, those servants gathered everyone they found, bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with diners. The king entered to see the diners and there he saw a man who was not wearing the wedding dress. He said to him, Friend, why did you come in here without the wedding dress? That fell silent. Then the king commanded the servants: Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Because many are called, but few are chosen ”.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
God's goodness has no boundaries and does not discriminate against anyone: this is why the banquet of the Lord's gifts is universal, for everyone. Everyone is given the opportunity to respond to his invitation, to his call; no one has the right to feel privileged or to claim exclusivity. All this leads us to overcome the habit of placing ourselves comfortably in the center, as the chief priests and Pharisees did. This is not to be done; we must open ourselves to the peripheries, recognizing that even those on the margins, even those who are rejected and despised by society, are the object of God's generosity.
