Today's Gospel 17 September 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corìnzi
1Cor 15,1-11

Then I proclaim to you, brothers, the Gospel that I announced to you and that you have received, in which you remain steadfast and from which you are saved, if you keep it as I announced it to you. Unless you believed in vain!
In fact, I have transmitted to you, first of all, what I too received, namely that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose on the third day according to the Scriptures and that he appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve. .
He later appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time: most of them still live, while some are dead. He also appeared to James, and therefore to all the apostles. Last of all it appeared to me as well as to an abortion.
In fact, I am the least of the apostles and I am not worthy to be called an apostle because I persecuted the Church of God. By the grace of God, however, I am what I am, and his grace in me was not in vain. Indeed, I struggled more than all of them, not me, however, but the grace of God that is with me.
So both I and they, so we preach and so you believed.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 7,36-50

At that time, one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to eat with him. He went into the Pharisee's house and sat down at table. And behold, a woman, a sinner from that city, learning that she was in the Pharisee's house, brought a vase of perfume; standing behind, at his feet, crying, she began to wet them with tears, then she dried them with her hair, kissed them and sprinkled them with perfume.
Seeing this, the Pharisee who had invited him said to himself: "If this man were a prophet, he would know who he is, and of what kind the woman is touching him: she is a sinner!"
Jesus then said to him, "Simon, I have something to tell you." And he replied, "Tell them, master." 'A creditor had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, the other fifty. Having nothing to repay, he forgave the debt to both of them. Which of them therefore will love him more? ». Simon replied: "I suppose he is the one to whom he forgave the most." Jesus said to him, "You have judged well."
And, turning towards the woman, he said to Simon: «Do you see this woman? I entered your house and you did not give me water for my feet; but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You didn't give me a kiss; she, on the other hand, since I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil; but she has sprinkled my feet with perfume. This is why I tell you: his many sins are forgiven, because he loved much. On the other hand the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little ».
Then he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." Then the guests began to say to themselves: "Who is this who forgives even sins?". But he said to the woman: 'Your faith has saved you; go in peace! ».

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The Pharisee does not conceive that Jesus lets himself be "contaminated" by sinners, so they thought. But the Word of God teaches us to distinguish between sin and the sinner: with sin we must not compromise, while sinners - that is all of us! - we are like sick people, who must be treated, and to cure them, the doctor must approach them, visit them, touch them. And of course the sick person, to be healed, must recognize that he needs a doctor. But many times we fall into the temptation of hypocrisy, of believing ourselves better than others. All of us, we look at our sin, our mistakes and we look to the Lord. This is the line of salvation: the relationship between the sinful "I" and the Lord. (General audience, 20 April 2016)
