Today's Gospel December 20, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
First Reading

From the second book of Samuèle
2Sam 7,1-5.8-12.14.16

King David, when he had settled in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around, said to the prophet Nathan: "See, I live in a cedar house, while the ark of God it is under the cloths of a tent ». Nathan answered the king, "Go, do what you have in your heart, for the Lord is with you." But that same night the word of the Lord was addressed to Nathan: “Go and tell my servant David: Thus saith the Lord: Will you build me a house, so that I may live there? I took you from the pasture while you were following the flock, so that you might be the ruler of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you went, I have destroyed all your enemies before you and I will make your name as great as that of the great ones who are on earth. I will set a place for Israel, my people, and I will plant it there so that you will live there and will no longer tremble and the evildoers will not oppress it as in the past and as since the day I established judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The Lord announces that he will make a home for you. When your days are over and you sleep with your fathers, I will raise up one of your descendants after you, out of your womb, and I will establish his kingdom. I will be a father to him and he will be a son to me. Your house and your kingdom will be steadfast for ever before me, your throne will be made stable forever. "

Second reading

From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Romans
Rom 16,25-27

Brothers, to him who has the power to confirm you in my Gospel, who announces Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, shrouded in silence for eternal centuries, but now manifested through the scriptures of the Prophets, by order of the eternal God, announced to all peoples so that they may reach the obedience of faith, to God, who alone is wise, through Jesus Christ, the glory for ever. Amen.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 1,26-38

At that time, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth to a virgin, betrothed to a man of the house of David, named Joseph. The virgin was called Mary.
Entering her, he said: "Rejoice, full of grace: the Lord is with you." At these words she was very upset and wondered what sense a greeting like this had. The angel said to her: «Do not be afraid, Mary, because you have found grace with God. And behold, you will conceive a son, you will give birth to him and you will call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High; the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever and his kingdom will have no end. " Then Mary said to the angel: "How will this happen, since I don't know a man?" The angel answered her: «The Holy Spirit will descend on you and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. Therefore he who will be born will be holy and will be called Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, in her old age she too conceived a son and this is the sixth month for her, who was called sterile: nothing is impossible for God ". Then Mary said: "Behold the servant of the Lord: let it be done to me according to your word." And the angel walked away from her.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
In Mary's 'yes' there is the 'yes' of the whole History of Salvation, and there begins the last 'yes' of man and of God ”. May the Lord give us the grace to enter this path of men and women who knew how to say yes ”. (Santa Marta, April 4, 2016
