Today's Gospel December 22, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first book of Samuèle
1Sam 1,24-28

In those days, Anna took Samuèle with her, with a three-year-old bullock, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and brought him into the temple of the Lord at Shiloh: he was still a child.

Slain the bull, they presented the boy to Eli and she said: 'Forgive me, my lord. For your life, my lord, I am that woman who had been here with you to pray to the Lord. For this child I prayed and the Lord granted me the grace I asked for. I too let the Lord ask for it: for all the days of his life he is required for the Lord ”.

And they bowed down there before the Lord.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 1,46-55

At that time, Maria said:

«My soul magnifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God, my savior,
because he looked at the humility of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed.

The Almighty has done great things for me
and Santo is his name;
from generation to generation his mercy
for those who fear it.

He explained the power of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their heart;
overthrew the mighty from thrones,
raised the humble;
has filled the hungry with good things,
he sent the rich away empty-handed.

He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering his mercy,
as he said to our fathers,
for Abraham and his descendants forever. "

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
What does our Mother advise us? Today in the Gospel the first thing he says is: "My soul magnifies the Lord" (Lk 1,46:15). We, used to hearing these words, perhaps we no longer pay attention to their meaning. To magnify literally means "to do great", to enlarge. Mary "magnifies the Lord": not the problems, which she did not lack at that moment. From here springs the Magnificat, from here comes joy: not from the absence of problems, which sooner or later arrive, but joy comes from the presence of God who helps us, who is close to us. Because God is great. And above all, God looks at the little ones. We are his weakness of love: God looks and loves the little ones. (Angelus, 2020 August XNUMX)
