Today's Gospel 22 September 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the book of Proverbs
Pr 21,1-6.10-13

The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord:
he directs him wherever he wants.
In the eyes of man, his every way seems straight,
but the one who searches hearts is the Lord.
Practice justice and equity
to the Lord it is worth more than a sacrifice.
Haughty eyes and a proud heart,
the lamp of the wicked is sin.
The projects of those who are diligent turn into profit,
but whoever is in too much of a hurry goes towards poverty.
Accumulating treasures by dint of lies
it is the fleeting futility of those seeking death.
The soul of the wicked desires to do evil,
in his eyes his neighbor finds no mercy.
When the swagger is punished, the inexperienced becomes wise;
he acquires knowledge when the sage is instructed.
The righteous observes the house of the wicked
and plunges the wicked into misfortune.
Who closes his ear to the cry of the poor
he will invoke in turn and get no answer.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 8,18-21

At that time, the mother and her brothers went to Jesus, but they could not approach him because of the crowd.
They let him know: "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and want to see you."
But he replied to them: "These are my mother and my brothers: those who hear the word of God and put it into practice."

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
These are the two conditions for following Jesus: listening to the Word of God and putting it into practice. This is the Christian life, nothing more. Simple, simple. Perhaps we have made it a bit difficult, with so many explanations that no one understands, but the Christian life is like this: listening to the Word of God and practicing it.
