Today's Gospel 23 September 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the book of Proverbs
Pr 30,5-9

Every word of God is purified in fire;
he is a shield for those who take refuge in him.
Don't add anything to his words,
lest he take you back and be found a liar.

I ask you two things,
do not deny it to me before I die:
keep falsehood and lies away from me,
give me neither poverty nor wealth,
but let me have my piece of bread,
because, once satisfied, I do not deny you
and say: "Who is the Lord?"
or, reduced to poverty, you don't steal
and abuse the name of my God.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 9,1-6

At that time, Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them strength and power over all demons and to heal diseases. And he sent them to announce the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey, neither stick, nor sack, nor bread, nor money, and don't bring two tunics. Whichever house you enter, stay there, and then leave from there. As for those who do not welcome you, go out of their city and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them. "
Then they went out and wandered from village to village, everywhere announcing the good news and healing.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The disciple will have authority if he follows the steps of Christ. And what are the steps of Christ? Poverty. From God he became man! It destroyed itself! He undressed! Poverty that leads to meekness, humility. The humble Jesus who goes down the road to heal. And so an apostle with this attitude of poverty, humility, meekness, is capable of having the authority to say: "Get converted", to open hearts. (Santa Marta, 7 February 2019)
