Today's Gospel November 24, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the book of the Apocalypse of Saint John the Apostle
Rev 14,14: 19-XNUMX

I, John, saw: behold a white cloud, and on the cloud sat one like a Son of man: on his head a golden crown and a sharp sickle in his hand.

Another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him who was seated on the cloud: “Throw your sickle and reap; the time has come to reap, because the harvest of the earth is ripe ». Then he who sat on the cloud threw his sickle on the earth, and the earth was harvested.

Then another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he too holding a sharp sickle. Another angel, who has power over the fire, came from the altar and cried with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle: "Throw down your sharp sickle and harvest the grapes of the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe." The angel threw his sickle on the earth, harvested the vine of the earth and overthrew the grapes in the great vat of God's wrath.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 21,5-11

At that time, while some were speaking of the temple, which was adorned with beautiful stones and votive gifts, Jesus said: "The days will come when, of what you see, no stone will be left on stone that will not be destroyed."

They asked him, "Master, when then will these things happen and what will be the sign when they are about to happen?" He replied: 'Be careful not to be deceived. In fact many will come in my name saying: "It is I", and: "The time is near". Don't go after them! When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified, because these things must happen first, but the end is not immediately ”.

Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places; there will also be terrifying facts and great signs from heaven.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The destruction of the temple foretold by Jesus is a figure not so much of the end of history as of the end of history. In fact, in front of the listeners who want to know how and when these signs will happen, Jesus responds with the typical apocalyptic language of the Bible. Christ's disciples cannot remain slaves to fears and anguish; they are called instead to live in history, to stem the destructive force of evil, with the certainty that the provident and reassuring tenderness of the Lord always accompanies his action of good. Love is superior, love is more powerful, because it is God: God is love. (Angelus, November 17, 2019
