Today's Gospel October 25, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
First Reading

From the book of Exodus
Ex 22,20-26

Thus says the Lord: “You will not harass a stranger or oppress him, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt. You will not mistreat the widow or the orphan. If you mistreat him, when he invokes my help, I will listen to his cry, my anger will be kindled and I will make you die by the sword: your wives will be widows and your children orphans. If you lend money to someone of my people, the indigent who is with you, you will not behave with him as a usurer: you must not impose any interest on him. If you take your neighbor's cloak as a pledge, you will return it to him before the sun sets, because it is his only blanket, it is the cloak for his skin; how could she cover herself while sleeping? Otherwise, when he shouts at me, I will listen to him, because I am merciful ».

Second reading

From the first letter of St Paul the apostle to the Thessalonicési
1Ts 1,5c-10

Brothers, you well know how we have behaved among you for your good. And you followed our example and that of the Lord, having accepted the Word in the midst of great trials, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so as to become a model for all believers in Macedonia and Achaia. Indeed through you the word of the Lord resounds not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has spread everywhere, so much so that we do not need to speak of it. In fact, it is they who tell how we came among you and how you converted from idols to God, to serve the living and true God and await from heaven his Son, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus, who free from the anger that comes.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 22,34-40

At that time, the Pharisees, having heard that Jesus had shut the mouth of the Sadduches, gathered together and one of them, a doctor of the Law, questioned him to put him to the test: «Teacher, in the Law, what is the great commandment? ". He replied, “You will love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. The second then is similar to that: You will love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments ”.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
May the Lord give us grace, only this: pray for our enemies, pray for those who love us, who don't love us. Pray for those who hurt us, who persecute us. And each of us knows the name and surname: I pray for this, for this, for this, for this ... I assure you that this prayer will do two things: it will improve him, because prayer is powerful, and it will make us more children of the Father. (Santa Marta, June 14, 2016
