Today's Gospel November 27, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the book of the Apocalypse of Saint John the Apostle
Ap 20,1: 4.11-21,2 - XNUMX: XNUMX

I, John, saw an angel coming down from heaven holding the key of the Abyss and a large chain. He grabbed the dragon, the ancient serpent, which is devil and the Satan, and chained him for a thousand years; he threw him into the abyss, locked him up and placed the seal over him, so that he would no longer seduce the nations, until his thousand years were completed, after which he must be released for some time.
Then I saw some thrones - those who sat on them were given the power to judge - and the souls of the beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus and the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast and its statue and had not received the mark on the forehead and hand. They revived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it. The earth and the sky disappeared from his presence without leaving a trace of himself. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And the books were opened. Another book was also opened, that of life. The dead were judged according to their works, based on what was written in those books. The sea returned the dead it guarded, Death and the underworld made the dead they guarded, and each was judged according to his works. Then Death and the underworld were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And whoever was not written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
And I saw a new sky and a new earth: the former sky and earth had in fact disappeared and the sea was no longer there. And I also saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from heaven, from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 21,29-33

At that time, Jesus told his disciples a parable:
«Observe the fig tree and all the trees: when they are already sprouting, you understand for yourself, looking at them, that summer is now near. So too: when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.
In truth I tell you: this generation will not pass before everything happens. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away ».

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The history of humanity, like the personal history of each of us, cannot be understood as a simple succession of words and facts that have no meaning. It cannot even be interpreted in the light of a fatalistic vision, as if everything were already pre-established according to a destiny that takes away any space of freedom, preventing us from making choices that are the result of a real decision. We know, however, a fundamental principle with which we must confront: "Heaven and earth will pass away - says Jesus - but my words will not pass away" (v. 31). The real crux is this. On that day, each of us will have to understand if the Word of the Son of God has illuminated his personal existence, or if he has turned his back on him preferring to trust in his own words. It will be more than ever the moment in which to abandon ourselves definitively to the love of the Father and entrust ourselves to his mercy. (Angelus, November 18, 2018)
