Today's Gospel March 28 2020 with comment

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John 7,40: 53-XNUMX.
At that time, when hearing the words of Jesus, some of the people said: "This is truly the prophet!".
Others said: "This is the Christ!" Others said, "Did Christ come from Galilee?
Does not Scripture say that Christ will come from the lineage of David and from Bethlehem, the village of David? ».
And dissent arose among the people about him.
Some of them wanted to arrest him, but nobody put his hands on him.
The guards then returned to the high priests and the Pharisees and they said to them, "Why didn't you lead him?"
The guards replied: "Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks!"
But the Pharisees replied to them: "Perhaps you too have been deceived?
Maybe some of the leaders, or among the Pharisees, believed him?
But these people, who do not know the Law, are cursed! ».
Then Nicodemus, one of them, who had previously come to Jesus said:
"Does our law judge a man before he has listened to him and knows what he is doing?"
They said to him, "Are you also from Galilee?" Study and you will see that a prophet does not arise from Galilee ».
And they each went back to his home.

Vatican Council II
Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, «Lumen Gentium», 9 (© Libreria Editrice Vaticana)
Through the cross Christ gathers men divided and dispersed
Christ instituted a new covenant, that is, the new covenant in his blood (cf. 1 Cor 11,25:1), calling the crowd by the Jews and the nations, to merge in unity not according to the flesh, but in the Spirit, and to constitute the new people of God (...): "an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people rescued (...) What once was not even a people, now instead is the people of God" (2,9 Pt 10- XNUMX) (...)

The messianic people, although not actually understanding the universality of men and sometimes appearing as a small flock, nevertheless constitutes for humanity the strongest germ of unity, hope and salvation. Constituted by Christ for a communion of life, charity and truth, he is also assumed by him to be an instrument of the redemption of all and, as a light of the world and salt of the earth (cf. Mt 5,13: 16-XNUMX), he is sent to all the world. (...) God has summoned all those who look with faith to Jesus, the author of salvation and the principle of unity and peace, and has constituted his Church, so that the visible sacrament of this saving unity may be in the eyes of all and each .

Having to extend it to the whole earth, it enters the history of men, although at the same time it transcends the times and borders of peoples, and in its journey through temptations and tribulations it is supported by the strength of the grace of God that was promised it by Lord, so that for human weakness she does not fail to perfect fidelity but remains worthy spouse of her Lord, and does not cease, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to renew herself, until through the cross she reaches the light that knows no sunset.
