Today's Gospel January 3, 2021 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
First Reading

From the book of the Siracide
Sir 24,1: 2.8-12-24, NV 1, 4.12-16-XNUMX

Wisdom gives its own praise,
in God he finds his pride,
in the midst of his people he proclaims his glory.
In the assembly of the Most High he opens his mouth,
he proclaims his glory before his hosts,
in the midst of her people she is exalted,
in the holy assembly is admired,
in the multitude of the elect he finds his praise
and among the blessed she is blessed, while she says:
"Then the creator of the universe gave me an order,
he who created me made me pitch my tent and said:
"Pitch your tent in Jacob and take inheritance in Israel,
sink your roots among my chosen ones ".
Before the centuries, from the beginning,
he created me, for all eternity I will not fail.
In the holy tent in front of him I officiated
and so I am established in Zion.
In the city he loves he made me live
and in Jerusalem it is my power.
I took root in the midst of a glorious people,
in the portion of the Lord is my inheritance,
in the assembly of the saints I have taken up residence ».

Second reading

From the letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians
Eph 1,3: 6.15-18-XNUMX

Blessed be God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heaven in Christ. In him he chose us before the creation of the world to be holy and immaculate before him in charity, predestining us to be adopted children for him through Jesus Christ, according to the loving plan of his will, to praise the splendor of his grace. , of which he gratified us in the beloved Son.
Therefore I [Paul] too, having learned of your faith in the Lord Jesus and of the love you have towards all the saints, continually give thanks for you by remembering you in my prayers, so that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation for a profound knowledge of him; enlighten the eyes of your heart to make you understand to what hope he has called you, what treasure of glory his inheritance among the saints contains.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the gospel according to John
Jn 1,1-18

[In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was, in the beginning, with God:
everything was done through him
and without him nothing has been made of what exists.
In him was life
and life was the light of men;
the light shines in the darkness
and the darkness has not overcome it.
A man came sent from God:
his name was Giovanni.
He came as a witness
to bear witness to the light,
so that all might believe through him.
He was not the light,
but he had to bear witness to the light.
[True light came into the world,
the one that enlightens every man.
It was in the world
and the world was made through him;
yet the world did not recognize him.
He came among his own,
and his own did not accept him.
But to those who welcomed him
gave power to become children of God:
to those who believe in his name,
which, not from blood
nor by the will of flesh
nor by the will of man,
but from God they were generated.
And the Word became flesh
and came to dwell among us;
and we beheld his glory,
glory as of the only begotten Son who comes from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
John testifies to him and proclaims:
"It was of him that I said:
The one who comes after me
is ahead of me,
because it was before me ».
From its fullness
we all received:
grace upon grace.
Because the Law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
God, no one has ever seen him:
the only begotten Son, who is God
and is in the bosom of the Father,
it is he who revealed it.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
It is the invitation of the Holy Mother Church to welcome this Word of salvation, this mystery of light. If we welcome him, if we welcome Jesus, we will grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord, we will learn to be merciful like him. (Angelus, January 3, 2016
