Today's Gospel March 3 2020 with comment

Tuesday of the first week of Lent

The Gospel of the day
From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 6,7-15.
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «By praying, do not waste words like pagans, who believe they are being listened to by words.
So do not be like them, because your Father knows what things you need even before you ask him.
You therefore pray thus: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name;
Come your kingdom; your will be done, as in heaven so on earth.
Give us today our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For if you forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;
but if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your sins. "

St. John Mary Vianney (1786-1859)
priest, curate of Ars

Selected thoughts of the holy Curé d'Ars
God's love is infinite
There is so little faith in the world today that either one hopes too much, or it despairs.

There are those who say: "I have done too much harm, the Good Lord cannot forgive me". My children, it is a big blasphemy; it is putting a limit on God's mercy and she has none: it is infinite. You may have done as much harm as it takes to lose a parish, if you confess, if you are saddened for having done that evil and you no longer want to do it, the Good Lord has forgiven you.

Our Lord is like a mother who carries her child in her arms. The son is bad: he kicks his mother, bites her, scratches her; but the mother pays no attention; he knows that if he leaves him he will fall, he will not be able to walk alone. (…) This is how our Lord is (…). He endures all our mistreatment and our arrogance; forgives us all our nonsense; has pity on us in spite of us.

The good god is ready to forgive us when we ask him how much a mother to withdraw her son from the fire.
