Today's Gospel September 3, 2020 with the advice of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corìnzi
1Cor 3,18-23

Brothers, no one is fooled. If anyone among you thinks himself a wise man in this world, let him make himself a fool to become wise, because the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. In fact, it is written: "He makes the wise fall by means of their cunning". And again: "The Lord knows that the plans of the wise are in vain".

Therefore let no one place his pride in men, because everything is yours: Paul, Apollo, Cephas, the world, life, death, the present, the future: everything is yours! But you are of Christ and Christ is of God.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 5,1-11

At that time, while the crowd was crowding around him to hear the word of God, Jesus, standing by the lake of Gennèsaret, saw two boats approaching the shore. The fishermen had come down and washed their nets. He got into a boat, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat and taught the crowds from the boat.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon: "Put out into the deep and cast your nets for fishing." Simon replied: «Master, we struggled all night and didn't catch anything; but at your word I will cast the nets ». They did so and caught a huge amount of fish and their nets almost broke. Then they motioned to their companions in the other boat to come and help them. They came and filled both boats until they nearly sank.

Seeing this, Simon Peter threw himself on Jesus' knees, saying, "Lord, depart from me, for I am a sinner." In fact, astonishment had invaded him and all those who were with him, for the fishing they had done; so also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. Jesus said to Simon: «Do not be afraid; from now on you will be fisher of men ».

And, pulling the boats ashore, they left everything and followed him.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
Today's Gospel challenges us: do we know how to truly trust the word of the Lord? Or do we allow ourselves to be discouraged by our failures? In this Holy Year of Mercy we are called to comfort those who feel sinners and unworthy before the Lord and dejected for their errors, telling them the same words of Jesus: "Do not be afraid". “The Father's mercy is greater than your sins! It's bigger, don't worry !. (Angelus, 7 February 2016)
