Today's Gospel October 30, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the Letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Philippians
Phil 1,1-11

Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: grace to you and peace from God, our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
I give thanks to my God every time I remember you. Always, when I pray for all of you, I do so with joy because of your cooperation in the gospel, from the first day to the present. I am convinced that he who began this good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
It is right, moreover, that I feel these feelings for all of you, because I carry you in my heart, both when I am in captivity and when I defend and confirm the Gospel, you who with me are all participants in grace. In fact, God is my witness to the strong desire I have for all of you in the love of Christ Jesus.
And therefore I pray that your charity will grow ever more in knowledge and in full discernment, so that you can distinguish what is best and be whole and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with that fruit of righteousness which is obtained through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 14,1-6

One Saturday Jesus went to the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees to have lunch and they were watching him. And behold, there was a man sick with dropsy before him.
Addressing the doctors of the Law and the Pharisees, Jesus said: "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?" But they were silent. He took him by the hand, healed him and sent him away.
Then he said to them, "Which one of you if a son or an ox falls into the well will not bring it out immediately on the Sabbath?" And they could not answer anything to these words.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
In the Christian tradition, faith, hope and charity are much more than feelings or attitudes. They are virtues infused in us by the grace of the Holy Spirit (cf. CCC, 1812-1813): gifts that heal us and make us healers, gifts that open us to new horizons, even as we navigate the difficult waters of our time. A new encounter with the Gospel of faith, hope and love invites us to assume a creative and renewed spirit. We will be able to deeply heal the unjust structures and destructive practices that separate us from each other, threatening the human family and our planet. So we ask ourselves: How can we help heal our world today? As disciples of the Lord Jesus, who is the doctor of souls and bodies, we are called to continue "his work of healing and salvation" (CCC, 1421) in a physical, social and spiritual sense (GENERAL AUDIENCE August 5, 2020
