Today's Gospel 30 September 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the book of Job
Job 9,1-12.14-16

Job answered his friends and began to say:

"In truth I know it is like this:
and how can a man be right before God?
If anyone wants to dispute with him,
would not be able to answer once in a thousand.
He is wise in mind, mighty in strength:
who opposed him and remained safe?
He moves mountains and they don't know it,
in his anger he overwhelms them.
It shakes the earth from its place
and its columns tremble.
It commands the sun and it does not rise
and seals the stars.
He alone unfolds the skies
and walks on the waves of the sea.
Create the Bear and the Orion,
the Pleiades and the constellations of the southern sky.
He does things so great that they cannot be investigated,
wonders that cannot be counted.
If he passes me by and I don't see him,
he goes away and I don't notice him.
If he kidnaps something, who can stop him?
Who can tell him: “What are you doing?”.
Much less could I answer him,
choosing the words to say to him;
I, even if I were right, could not answer him,
I should ask my judge for mercy.
If I called him and he answered me,
I don't think he would listen to my voice. '

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 9,57-62

At that time, while they were walking along the road, a man said to Jesus: "I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus answered him, "Foxes have their lairs and the birds of the sky their nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."
To another he said, "Follow me." And he said, "Lord, allow me to go and bury my father first." He replied, "Let the dead bury their dead; but you go and announce the kingdom of God ».
Another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me take leave of those in my house ». But Jesus answered him: "No one who puts his hand to the plow and then turns back is suitable for the kingdom of God."

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The Church, in order to follow Jesus, is itinerant, acts immediately, quickly, and decisively. The value of these conditions set by Jesus - itinerancy, promptness and decision - does not lie in a series of "no" said to good and important things in life. Rather, the emphasis must be placed on the main objective: to become a disciple of Christ! A free and conscious choice, made out of love, to reciprocate the priceless grace of God, and not made as a way to promote oneself. Jesus wants us to be passionate about him and the Gospel. A passion of the heart that translates into concrete gestures of closeness, of closeness to the brothers most in need of welcome and care. Just as he himself lived. (Angelus, June 30, 2019
