Today's Gospel December 31, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first letter of St. John the apostle
1 Jn 2,18: 21-XNUMX

Children, the last hour has come. As you have heard that the antichrist must come, in fact many antichrists have already come. From this we know that it is the last hour.
They came out of us, but they weren't ours; if they had been ours, they would have stayed with us; they came out to make it clear that not everyone is one of us.
Now you have received the anointing from the Holy, and you all have the knowledge. I did not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it and because no lie comes from the truth.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to John
Jn 1,1-18

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God
and the Word was God.

He was, in the beginning, with God:
everything was done through him
and without him nothing has been made of what exists.

In him was life
and life was the light of men;
the light shines in the darkness
and the darkness has not overcome it.

A man came sent from God:
his name was Giovanni.
He came as a witness
to bear witness to the light,
so that all might believe through him.
He was not the light,
but he had to bear witness to the light.

True light came into the world,
the one that enlightens every man.
It was in the world
and the world was made through him;
yet the world did not recognize him.
He came among his own,
and his own did not accept him.

But to those who welcomed him
gave power to become children of God:
to those who believe in his name,
which, not from blood
nor by the will of flesh
nor by the will of man,
but from God they were generated.

And the Word became flesh
and came to dwell among us;
and we beheld his glory,
glory as of the only begotten Son
which comes from the Father,
full of grace and truth.

John testifies to him and proclaims:
"It was of him that I said:
The one who comes after me
is ahead of me,
because it was before me ».

From its fullness
we all received:
grace upon grace.
Because the Law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

God, no one has ever seen him:
the only begotten Son, who is God
and is in the bosom of the Father,
it is he who revealed it.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The Word is the light, yet men have preferred darkness; the Word came among his own, but they did not accept it (cf. vv. 9-10). They have closed the door in the face of the Son of God. It is the mystery of evil which also undermines our life and which requires vigilance and attention on our part so that it does not prevail. (Angelus, January 3, 2016
