Today's Gospel October 31, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Philippites
Fil 1,18b-26

Brothers, as long as Christ is announced in every way, for convenience or sincerity, I rejoice and will continue to rejoice. I know in fact that this will serve to my salvation, thanks to your prayer and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my ardent expectation and the hope that in nothing I will be disappointed; rather, in full confidence that, as always, even now Christ will be glorified in my body, whether I live or die.

For me, living is Christ and dying is a gain. But if living in the body means working fruitfully, I don't really know what to choose. In fact, I am caught between these two things: I have the desire to leave this life to be with Christ, which would be much better; but for you it is more necessary that I remain in the body.

Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue to remain in the midst of all of you for the progress and joy of your faith, so that your pride in me may grow more and more in Christ Jesus, with my return among you.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 14,1.7-11

One Saturday Jesus went to the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees to have lunch and they were watching him.

He told the guests a parable, noting how they chose the first places: "When you are invited to the wedding by someone, do not put yourself in the first place, so that there is not another guest more worthy than you, and the one who invited you and him comes to tell you: "Give him his seat!" Then you will have to shamefully take the last place.
Instead, when you are invited, go and put yourself in the last place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he will say to you: "Friend, come further on!" Then you will have honor in front of all the diners. Because whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted ».

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
Jesus does not intend to give norms of social behavior, but a lesson on the value of humility. History teaches that pride, achievement, vanity, ostentation are the cause of many evils. And Jesus makes us understand the need to choose the last place, that is, to seek smallness and concealment: humility. When we place ourselves before God in this dimension of humility, then God exalts us, leans towards us to elevate us to himself .. (ANGELUS August 28, 2016
