Today's Gospel January 5, 2021 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first letter of St. John the apostle
1 Jn 3,11: 21-XNUMX

Little children, this is the message you heard from the beginning: that we love one another. Not like Cain, who was from the Evil One and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, while his brother's were righteous. Don't be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Whoever does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. In this we have known love, in the fact that he gave his life for us; therefore we too must give our lives for our brothers. But if one has the riches of this world and, seeing his brother in need, closes his heart to him, how does God's love remain in him? Children, we do not love in words or with the language, but with deeds and in truth. In this we will know that we are of the truth and before him we will reassure our heart, whatever it reproaches us. God is bigger than our heart and knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not reproach us for anything, we have faith in God.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to John
Jn 1,43-51

At that time, Jesus wanted to leave for Galilee; he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me!" Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him: "We have found the one about whom Moses, in the Law, and the Prophets wrote: Jesus, the son of Joseph, of Nazareth." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Philip answered him, "Come and see." Meanwhile Jesus, seeing Nathanael coming to meet him, said of him: "Truly an Israelite in whom there is no falsehood." Nathanael asked him: "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, I saw you when you were under the fig tree." Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel!" Jesus answered him: «Because I told you that I had seen you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these! ». Then he said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, you will see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man."

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The Lord always makes us return to the first encounter, to the first moment in which He looked at us, spoke to us and gave birth to the desire to follow him. This is a grace to ask of the Lord, because in life we will always have this temptation to move away because we see something else: "But that will be fine, but that idea is good ...". (…) The grace of always returning to the first call, to the first moment: (…) do not forget, do not forget my story, when Jesus looked at me with love and told me: "This is your way". (Homily of Santa Marta, April 27, 2020)
