Today's Gospel January 7, 2021 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first letter of St. John the apostle
1 Jn 3,22 - 4,6

Beloved, whatever we ask, we receive from God, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

This is his commandment: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, according to the precept he has given us. Whoever keeps his commandments remains in God and God in him. In this we know that he remains in us: by the Spirit he has given us.

Beloved, do not trust every spirit, but test the spirits, to test if they really come from God, because many false prophets have come into the world. In this you can recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit that recognizes Jesus Christ who came in the flesh is from God; every spirit that does not recognize Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist who, as you have heard, comes, indeed is already in the world.

You are of God, little children, and you have overcome these, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world, therefore they teach worldly things and the world listens to them. We are of God: whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not of God does not listen to us. From this we distinguish the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 4,12-17.23-25

At that time, when Jesus learned that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee, left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum, on the seashore, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what had been said by means of of the prophet Isaiah:

"Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
on the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles!
The people who dwelt in darkness
saw a great light,
for those who lived in the region and shadow of death
a light has risen ».

From then on Jesus began to preach and say: "Get converted, because the kingdom of heaven is near".

Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom, and healing all sorts of diseases and infirmities in the people. His fame spread throughout Syria and led to him all the sick, tormented by various diseases and pains, possessed, epileptic and paralytic; and he healed them. Large crowds began to follow him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and from beyond the Jordan.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
With his preaching he announces the Kingdom of God and with the healings he shows that it is near, that the Kingdom of God is among us. (...) Having come to earth to announce and bring about the salvation of the whole man and of all men, Jesus shows a particular predilection for those who are wounded in body and spirit: the poor, the sinners, the possessed, the sick , the marginalized. Thus he reveals himself to be the doctor of both souls and bodies, the good Samaritan of man. He is the true Savior: Jesus saves, Jesus heals, Jesus heals. (Angelus, February 8, 2015)
