Today's Gospel November 7, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Philippites
Phil 4,10-19

Brothers, I felt great joy in the Lord because at last you made your concern for me flourish again: you had it even before, but you did not have the opportunity. I don't say this out of need, because I have learned to be self-sufficient on every occasion. I know how to live in poverty as I know how to live in abundance; I am trained for everything and for everything, for satiety and hunger, for abundance and poverty. I can do everything in him who gives me strength. However, you did well to share in my tribulations. You also know it, Philippési, that at the beginning of the preaching of the Gospel, when I left Macedonia, no Church opened for me a give and take account, if not you alone; and in Thessaloniki too you sent me the necessary items twice. However, it is not your gift that I seek, but the fruit that goes in abundance on your account. I have the necessary and also the superfluous; I am filled with your gifts received from Epaphroditus, which are a pleasant perfume, a pleasing sacrifice, which pleases God. My God, in turn, will fill your every need according to his wealth with magnificence, in Christ Jesus.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 16,9-15

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «Make friends with dishonest wealth, so that, when this is lacking, they may welcome you to eternal abodes.
Whoever is faithful in small matters is also faithful in important things; and whoever is dishonest in minor matters is also dishonest in important matters. So if you have not been faithful in dishonest wealth, who will entrust the real one to you? And if you have not been faithful in the wealth of others, who will give you yours?
No servant can serve two masters, because either he will hate one and love the other, or he will become attached to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth ».
The Pharisees, who were attached to money, listened to all these things and scoffed at him.
He said to them: "You are those who consider themselves righteous before men, but God knows your hearts: what is exalted among men is abominable before God."

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
With this teaching, Jesus urges us today to make a clear choice between him and the spirit of the world, between the logic of corruption, oppression and greed and that of righteousness, meekness and sharing. Someone behaves with corruption as with drugs: they think they can use it and stop when they want. We start recently: a tip here, a bribe there ... And between this and that one slowly loses one's freedom. (Pope Francis, Angelus of 18 September 2016)
