Today's Gospel December 8, 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
First Reading

From the book of Gènesi
Jan 3,9-15.20

[After the man had eaten of the fruit of the tree,] the Lord God called him and said to him, "Where are you?" He replied, "I heard your voice in the garden: I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid myself." He went on: "Who let you know that you are naked? Did you eat from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat? ». The man replied, "The woman you placed beside me gave me some tree and I ate it." The Lord God said to the woman, "What have you done?" The woman answered, "The serpent deceived me and I ate."

Then the Lord God said to the serpent:
“Because you have done this, damn you among all the cattle and all the wild animals!
On your belly you will walk and dust you will eat for all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring: this will crush your head and you will sneak up on her heel. "

The man named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

Second reading

From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians
Eph 1,3: 6.11-12-XNUMX

Blessed be God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heaven in Christ.
In him he chose us before the creation of the world
to be holy and immaculate before him in love,
predestining us to be adopted children for him
through Jesus Christ,
according to the love design of his will,
to praise the splendor of his grace,
of which he gratified us in the beloved Son.
In him we have also been made heirs,
predestined - according to his plan
that everything works according to his will -
to be the praise of his glory,
we, who have already hoped in Christ before.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 1, 26-38

At that time, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth to a virgin, betrothed to a man of the house of David, named Joseph. The virgin was called Mary. Entering her, he said: "Rejoice, full of grace: the Lord is with you."
At these words she was very upset and wondered what was the meaning of a greeting like this. The angel said to her: «Do not be afraid, Mary, because you have found grace with God. And behold, you will conceive a son, you will give birth to him and you will call him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High; the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever and his kingdom will have no end. "

Then Mary said to the angel: "How will this happen, since I don't know a man?" The angel answered her: «The Holy Spirit will descend on you and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. Therefore he who will be born will be holy and will be called Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, in her old age she too conceived a son and this is the sixth month for her, who was called barren: nothing is impossible for God. ".

Then Mary said: "Behold the servant of the Lord: let it be done to me according to your word."
And the angel walked away from her.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
We thank you, Immaculate Mother, for reminding us that, for the love of Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin, but free, free to love, to love each other, to help us as brothers, even if different from each other - thanks to God different from each other! Thank you because, with your candor, you encourage us not to be ashamed of good, but of evil; help us to keep the evil one away from us, who by deceit draws us to him, into the coils of death; grant us the sweet memory that we are children of God, Father of immense goodness, eternal source of life, beauty and love.
