Today's Gospel 9 September 2020 with the words of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corìnzi
1Cor 7,25-31

Brothers, regarding virgins, I have no command from the Lord, but I give advice, as one who has obtained mercy from the Lord and deserves trust. I therefore think it is good for man, because of the present difficulties, to remain as he is.

Do you find yourself tied to a woman? Don't try to melt. Are you free as a woman? Don't go looking for it. But if you get married you don't sin; and if the young woman takes a husband, it is not a sin. However, they will have tribulations in their life, and I would like to spare you.

This I tell you, brothers: time has become short; henceforth, let those who have wives live as if they did not; those who cry, as if they did not cry; those who rejoice, as if they did not rejoice; those who buy, as if they did not own; those who use the goods of the world, as if they did not use them fully: in fact, the figure of this world passes!

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 6,20-26

At that time, Jesus, looking up at his disciples, said:

"Blessed are you, poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who are hungry now,
because you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who cry now,
because you will laugh.
Blessed are you when men hate you and when they banish you and insult you and despise your name as infamous, because of the Son of man. Rejoice in that day and rejoice because, behold, your reward is great in heaven. In fact, their fathers did the same with the prophets.

But woe to you, rich,
because you have already received your consolation.
Woe to you, who are now full,
because you will be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
because you will be in pain and you will cry.
Woe, when all men speak well of you. In fact, their fathers acted in the same way with false prophets ”.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The poor in spirit is the Christian who does not rely on himself, on material wealth, does not insist on his own opinions, but listens with respect and willingly defer to the decisions of others. If there were poorer in spirit in our communities, there would be fewer divisions, conflicts and controversies! Humility, like charity, is an essential virtue for coexistence in Christian communities. The poor, in this evangelical sense, appear as those who keep awake the goal of the Kingdom of Heaven, making us see that it is anticipated in germ in the fraternal community, which favors sharing rather than possession.
