Virgin of the Night, a prayer to calm the sufferings of the night

You know the prayer "Virgin of the night"?

Evening is a time when fears and anxieties can find their way and disturb your spirit and your rest. Many times these night terrors are unmanageable, we cannot get them out of our minds and we feel that they suffocate us and deprive us of hope.

However, even though we can't choose how we feel or how we handle these negative emotions, we can put them in God's hands, blindly trust Him, and remember that He always gives us everything we need. Jesus offered us his Mother to accompany us on the journey to meet him; Maria always wants to calm our anguish.

This is the prayer to Our Lady of the Night that he wrote Monsignor Antonio Bello (1935-1993), Italian bishop. She's very beautiful.

“Virgin of the night”, a prayer to calm the night anguish with Mary

Holy Mary, Virgin of the Night,
Please stay close to us when pain is upon us
And the test bursts and the wind of despair hisses
and the black sky of worries,
or the cold of delusions or the severe wing of death.

Free us from the thrill of the dark.
In the hour of our Calvary, you,
that you experienced the solar eclipse,
spread your mantle over us, because wrapped in your breath,
the long wait for freedom is more bearable.

Lighten the suffering of the sick with the caresses of the Mother.
Fill the bitter time of whoever is alone with friendly and discreet presences.
Put out the fire of nostalgia in the hearts of sailors,
and offer them your shoulder, so that they can lean their heads on it.

Protect our loved ones who work in lands far from evil.
And it comforts those who have lost faith in life
with the poignant twinkle of his eyes.

Also today repeat the hymn of the Magnificat
and announcements of justice
to all the oppressed of the earth.
Don't leave us alone at night singing our fears.
In fact, in times of darkness you will come close to us
and you will whisper to us that you too, Virgin of Advent,
you're waiting for the light,
the fountains of tears will dry on our faces
and we will wake up together at dawn.

So be it.
