Virgin of the three fountains: extraordinary healings that took place at the sanctuary
The accurate assessment of the miraculous character of the first healings that took place using the land of the Grotto and imploring the protection and intercession of the Virgin of Revelation, was definitively made by the doctor Dr. Alberto Alliney, member of the International Medical Office of Lourdes, in charge of verifying the nature of these healings. He published the results:
A. Alliney, The Cave of the Three Fountains. - The events of April 12, 1947 and subsequent healings on examination of scientific medical criticism - with a preface by Prof. Nicola Pende -, Tip. Graphic Arts Union, Città di Castello 1952.
His conclusion on the apparition. After discarding any other natural pseudo-explanation, he concludes:
- From the story of Cornacchiola, confirmed by the narration of the three children, we know that the Beautiful Lady appeared immediately complete, perfect in the clean and precise contours, full of light, the face slightly olive red, green the coat, the pink band, the white the book is gray and gray; of a beauty which a human word cannot describe; she showed up in the sunlight at the mouth of a cave; unexpected, spontaneous, sudden, without any apparatus, without any waiting, without intermediaries;
it was first seen by the three children and by their father, two more times only by Cornacchiola;
it was accompanied by osmogenesis (perfume production) even at a distance, by conversions and repentances and by prodigious healings that outweigh all the therapeutic forces known by science;
it repeated itself two more times (the book, mind you, is from 1952), when you wanted;
and after more than an hour of conversation, the Beautiful Lady greeted with a nod, took two or three steps backwards, then turned and after another four or five steps she disappeared almost penetrating the boulder of pozzolana in bottom of the cave.
From all this I must argue that the apparition we are dealing with is real and religious. "
- P. Tomaselli reports in his booklet, already cited by us, The Virgin of Revelation, pp. 73-86, some of the numerous and prodigious healings that took place either in the Grotto itself or with the land of the Grotto placed on the patients.
«From the first months, after the apparition, reports of spectacular healings were disclosed. Then a group of doctors decided to establish a Health College to control these healings, with a real collaboration office.
The doctors met every fifteen days and the sessions were marked by great scientific severity and seriousness ».
In addition to the miraculous healing of the Neapolitan soldier hospitalized at the Celio, the author reports the miraculous healing of Carlo Mancuso, a usher from the town hall, here in Rome aged 36; on May 12, 1947 he had fallen into the elevator shaft, causing a serious fracture to the pelvis and crushing of the right forearm.
In plaster, after fifteen days of hospitalization, he was brought back home.
On 6 June the plaster cast had to be removed; the sick man could no longer resist the pains.
The Giuseppine Sisters, informed of the case, sent him some land from the Tre Fontane. Relatives put it on his aching parts. The pains stopped instantly. Mancuso felt healed, got up, tore off the bandages, dressed quickly and ran on the road.
The X-ray revealed that the bones of the pelvis and forearm still remain detached: yet the miracle worker has no pain, no disturbance, he can freely make any movement.
I report only, among many others that have taken place so far, the healing of Sister Livia Charter of the Daughters of Our Lady to Monte Calvario, in Via Emanuele Filiberto, also in Rome.
The Sister had been suffering from Pott's disease for ten years and had been forced to lie on a bed for four.
Urged to ask Our Lady for healing, she refused to do so, wanting to accept the atrocious suffering for the conversion of sinners.
The Nun nurse one night scattered some of the earth of the Grotto on her head and instantly the terrible evil disappeared; it was August 27, 1947.
For other scientifically controlled cases, read the book cited above by prof. Alberto Alliney. But it will be necessary to wait for the rich documentation in the possession of the Holy Office to be made public.
It is therefore no wonder the continuous rush of so many devoted crowds with some curious visitors, but soon struck by the charm emanating from the simplicity of the place and the faith of many people.
During the annual prayer vigils in front of the Grotto, personalities were noticed among the faithful, such as: Hon. Antonio Segni, the Hon. Palmiro Foresi, Carlo Campanini, the Hon. Enrico Medi. .. The latter was an assiduous devotee of the Shrine. His generosity is due to the Travertine Arch and the large Marian coat of arms on the front of the Grotto.
Among the devoted visitors, many cardinals: Antonio Maria Barbieri, archbishop of Montevideo who was the first cardinal who asked to enter the cave to kneel on the bare ground with the sacred purple; James Mc Guigar, archbishop of Toronto and primate of Canada, great patron of the nascent Shrine; José Caro Rodriguez, archbishop of Santiago de Chile, who was the first popularizer of the History of the Three Fountains Cave, in Spanish ...
The new life
An absolutely separate miracle is the change that took place in Cornacchiola by the Grace. The apparition of the Virgin, the long, maternal, ineffable communication of the Virgin, to the chosen one; this sudden, unexpected event brought about the immediate, radical transformation of the pertinacious, obstinate blasphemer, of the convinced advocate of Protestant propaganda, outgoing hatred for the Catholic Church, for the Pope and against the Most Holy Mother of God, in a fervent Catholic, in one zealous apostle of revealed truth.
Thus began a new life of repair, a real thirst to repair directly as much as possible, after so many years spent in the service of Satan.
An invincible thrust to attest to the miracle that grace has worked in him. Returns the past to the mind, Bruno calls him back, but to condemn him, to judge himself severely, to better evaluate the mercy of God towards him a sinner, to become more and more fervent in gaining lost time, in spreading better and better. love for the Blessed Virgin, an equal love for the Vicar of Christ and the Catholic, Apostolic, Roman Church for an ever increasing number of people; the recitation of the Holy Rosary; and mainly a deep devotion to Jesus the Eucharist, to His Most Sacred Heart.
Bruno Cornacchiola is now 69 years old; but to those who now ask him for the date of his birth, he replies: "I was born again on April 12, 1947".
His heartfelt desire: to personally ask forgiveness from those who in his hatred of the Church had done harm. He went to track down the priest who had dropped from the tram, thus causing him the fracture of his thigh: he asked and obtained the implored pardon and priestly blessing.
His first thought, however, remained to confess personally to the Pope, Pius XII, his insane intention to kill him, by giving him the dagger and the bible translated by the Protestant Diodati.
The opportunity arose about two years later. On December 9, 1949 there was an important religious demonstration in St. Peter's Square. It was the closure of the Crusade of Goodness.
The Pope, in those days, for three evenings, had invited a group of tram workers to recite the Rosary with him in his private chapel. The Jesuit Father Rotondi led the group.
«Among the workers - Cornacchiola says - I was there too. I carried with me the dagger and the Bible, on which it was written: - This will be the death of the Catholic Church, with the Pope in the head -. I wanted to deliver the dagger and the Bible to the Holy Father.
After the Rosary, the Father said to us:
"Some of you want to talk to me." I knelt and said: - Holiness, it's me!
The other workers made way for the Pope's passage; he approached, leaned towards me, put his hand on my shoulder, brought his face close to mine and asked: - What is it, my son?
- Holiness, here is the Protestant Bible that I misinterpreted and with which I killed many souls!
Crying, I also handed over the dagger, on which I had written: "Death to the Pope" ... and I said:
- I beg your pardon for having dared only to think this: I had planned to kill you with this dagger.
The Holy Father took those objects, looked at me, smiled and said:
- Dear son, with this you would have done nothing but give a new martyr and a new Pope to the Church, but to Christ a victory, a victory of love!
- Yes -, I exclaimed, - but I still ask for forgiveness!
- Son, added the Holy Father, the best forgiveness is repentance.
- Holiness, - I added, - tomorrow I will go to the red Emilia. The bishops from there invited me to take a religious propaganda tour. I must speak of the mercy of God, which was manifested to me through the Most Holy Virgin.
- Very well! I'm happy! Go with my Blessing in the little Italian Russia!
And in these thirty-five years the apostle of the Virgin of Revelation has never ceased to do her utmost, wherever ecclesiastical authority calls him, in his work as a prophet, defender of God and of the Church, against, wandering, against the enemies of the revealed Religion and of every orderly civilized life.
L'Osservatore Romano della Domenica, of June 8, 1955, wrote:
- Bruno Cornacchiola, the convert of the Madonna delle Tre Fontane in Rome, who had previously spoken in L'Aquila, found himself on Palm Sunday in Borgovelino di Rieti ...
In the morning, he deeply moved the listeners in the clear confrontation he made between the shady characters of the Passion and the major persecutors of Christ in our time.
In the afternoon, then, at the appointed time, the faithful of this and the surrounding parishes, who had largely responded to the invitation, felt thrills of emotion and jerks of tears, of joy in listening to the dramatic story of his candid confession that after the admirable vision of the Madonna in that distant April, he passed from the claws of Satan to Christian-Catholic freedom, of which he has now become an apostle.
The interest of Bishops, zealous pastors of the souls entrusted to them, led Bruno Cornacchiola to carry out his zealous apostolate a little everywhere, up to distant Canada, where he spoke - another extraordinary gift - in French!
With the same spirit of Christian-Catholic profession and true apostolate, Cornacchiola accepted the election as Municipal Councilor of Rome, from 1954 to 1958.
«In a session of the Capitoline Assembly I got up - says Bruno himself - to take the floor. As usual, as soon as I got up, I placed the Crucifix and the Rosary crown on the table in front of me.
A well-known Protestant was on the council. Seeing my gesture, with a sarcastic spirit, he interjected: - Now let's hear the prophet ... the one who says he saw the Madonna!
I replied: - Be careful! ... Think when you speak ... Because it may be that at the next session in your place there are red flowers! ».
Those familiar with Scripture will remember these words, the threat of the prophet Amos to Amasia schismatic priest of Bétel (Am. 7, 10-17), with the prediction of exile and death, in response to the insult addressed to him, as false-prophet.
In fact, when someone from the councilors or city councilors dies, at the next assembly it is customary to place a bunch of red flowers, roses and carnations in place of the deceased.
Three days after the exchange, derision and prophetic admonition, that Protestant really died.
At the next meeting of the municipal assembly the red flowers were seen in place of the deceased and the defendants exchanged startled looks.
"From then on - Cornacchiola concludes - when I got up to speak, I was looked at and listened to, with particular interest".
Bruno lost his good wife Jolanda six years ago; settled his children, he lives all for the apostolate he carries out and continues from time to time to have the unparalleled gift of seeing the Most Holy Virgin of Revelation, with messages reserved for the Supreme Pontiff.
