Padre Pio and the 4 souls in Purgatory

These visions were narrated by the Saint himself in a long letter addressed to brother Father Benedetto in November 1910. The four souls of Purgatory physically appeared before the friar, profoundly marking the his faith and his devotion.

One of the first experiences concerns the deceased parish priest of the Church of San Giovanni Rotondo, Don Salvatore Pannullo. Padre Pio saw him kneeling behind the altar during the celebration of the Holy Mass and discovered that he was in Purgatory due to his lack of devotion towards the Eucharist.

Padre Pio interceded for him, reducing his time by purification and taking him to Heaven. Another episode saw Padre Pio receive the thanks of some dead soldiers during World War II, who had heard it to pray for them.

More two souls of Purgatory that appeared to Padre Pio are those of Father Bernardo, Provincial of the Capuchin friars, and of the father of the Friar of Pietralcina, Zi Razio. Both appeared to ask for prayers and intercessions to be released from Purgatory.

The testimony of Father Alberto D'Apolito confirms these visions, underlining the emotional and spiritual impact they had on the friar and the religious community of San Giovanni Rotondo.

These experiences show the deep bond that the friar from Pietralcina had with the souls in Purgatory and his continuous intercession for them. The visions of these souls suffering strengthened his faith and dedication to prayer and penance and became an integral part of his spiritual mission.

Padre Pio was an example of holiness and charity towards the deceased. He always showed compassion and mercy towards those who needed help to be freed from their suffering in Purgatory.
