Despite the difference in faith between her and her husband, Monica continued to pray unceasingly for the conversion of him and her children.

His main concern was Agostino, who began to experience a turbulent adolescence. Augustine fell away from the Christian faith and adopted a dissolute lifestyle. Despite this, Monica never gave up on praying for the salvation of her son's soul.

For many years, Santa Monica suffered to see the son lose his way. However, his faith in God did not waver. Through the prayer and penance, Monica took Augustine's pain and sin on her soul, begging God to have mercy on him.

The redemption of Augustine

That sea of ​​tears and sacrifices brought the necessary results. Their story of redemption had a turning point when, after years of inner struggle, Augustine converted to Christianity and was baptized by Sant'Ambrogio in 387.

After Augustine's conversion, Santa Monica also had the joy of seeing her husband and daughter I perpetually welcome the Christian faith. However, her life was not all rosy because after the conversion of Augustine, her husband and her daughter, Patrick died.

Santa Monica spent the last years of her life in peace and quiet. He died in 387, known as the year of Augustine's conversion, in the Italian city of Ostia, after helping his son to become a saint and a great theologian of the Church.
