Sikhism and the Hereafter

Sikhism teaches that the soul is reincarnated when the body dies. Sikhs don't believe in an afterlife that is heaven or hell; they believe that good or bad deeds in this life determine the life form in which a soul takes rebirth.

At the time of death, ego-centered demonic souls may be destined to suffer great agonies and sorrows in the dark underworld of Narak.

A soul fortunate enough to attain grace overcomes the ego by meditating on God. In Sikhism, the focus of meditation is to remember the divine Illuminator by calling the name "Waheguru", silently or aloud. Such a soul can achieve liberation from the cycle of reincarnation. The emancipated soul experiences salvation in Sachkhand, the realm of truth, it exists eternally as an entity of radiant light.

Bhagat Trilochan, author of the scriptures Guru Granth Sahib, writes on the theme of the afterlife, which at the moment of death the final thought determines how to reincarnate. The soul is born in accordance with what the mind remembers last. Those who dwell on thoughts of riches or worries about wealth are born again as snakes and snakes. Those who dwell on thoughts of carnal relationships are born in brothels. Those who remember their sons and daughters are born like a pig to become a sow that gives birth to a dozen or more pigs with each pregnancy. Those who dwell on the thoughts of their homes or dwellings take the form of a goblin-like ghostly ghost that resembles haunted houses. Those whose final thoughts are of the divine, merge forever with the Lord of the Universe to dwell forever in the abode of the radiant light.
